Every Blade of Grass a Study
We recently visited Springfield, Illinois to attend the funeral of a friend's father. On the recommendation of our friends we stopped by the Lincoln memorial Garden. The garden was designed by Jens Jensen, a noted landscape architect and former Superintendent of the Chicago Park District. This park provided him with an opportunity to implement his "organic architecture." We strolled along paths in this idealized vision of the Midwestern woods and prairies. It was a hot and dry September day and the prairie grasses were on display in all their height and maturity. In the visitors center this quotation by Lincoln caught my eye. And it provided the reminder that a simple blade of grass can be the invitation to mindful wonder.
